General Expectations:✦ Whether as an artist(page or merch) or writer, all contributors will be responsible for 2 finished pieces for 2 different characters (preferably from different shows for the sake of coverage).
- If you would like to do more you are welcome to, however additional pieces should not be worked on until your assignments to start are complete.✦ Contributors must be 16+ of age, anyone applying as a mod must be preferably 21+ due to excessive communications with someone also 21+(head mod) and potential money handling for production costs✦ All work submitted both for application portfolios and the finished product must be entirely your own. No usage of AI in any way will be acceptable and if you are found to have used such not only will your piece not be incuded but you will be removed from the project.✦ You must have Discord and regularly check it at least for mentions or DMs for zine updates as most communications for the project will be within a server made for it.✦ Contributors may apply for more than one position but (aside from mod duties) you will only be chosen for one. (though it is possible to be a pinch hitter for the medium you were not chosen for)✦ All applicants will need to present a portfolio of 3-5 pieces that best show the kind of work you want to bring to the project. They must be submitted through either google drive share links or directly to them if posted online (please note bluesky posts cant be viewed without an account so submissions are not allowed from there).✦ All work both for portfolio and the project but must SFW in nature. Some blood is allowed as typical to the media we're making content of but beyond that whether gore or sexual in nature is not welcome.✦ Your portfolio does not need to have sentai works, but tokusatsu in general to show familiarity with the types of work are encouraged and appreciated!Artist Specific:✦ You will be responsible for 2 full page pieces should you be accepted. Merch or potential spot pieces are considered extra work after that point and will be on a volunteer basis after main assignments are given.
- Should you wish to make a comic, specifics need to be discussed with our formatting mod for scope but they are welcome! Just keep in mind you'll still be responsible for 2 separate main works so pace yourself.✦ Merch art specifics will be discussed in-server when all acceptance letters have been sent out and scope of the project is discussed between contributors and mods directly.Writer Specific:✦ You will be responsible for 2 pieces of 1.2-2k words should you be accepted (with some wiggle room on upper word count).✦ You may have an outside Beta, however please say as much in server if selected that this is the case. Either way at check-ins our head mod will also look over your work and offer critiques or proofreading at request.
✦ ~ "Why aren't extra rangers allowed?" ~
So this is a matter of keeping to focus for the sake of a set range. Extra rangers are well loved here we assure! But they have a different place in the franchise and their own history and the way they've been marketed by the franchise over the years and to include all of them atop the already 36 sixths (and that's including a few that are debatable already) would just be too much for one project.✦ ~ "Why is X in the zine but Y? / Why isn't X in the zine aren't they a sixth ranger? / I don't think Y should be in this zine." ~
So to start, most sixth rangers are generally self explanatory and obvious within their respective shows. Fair enough, but that's most of them. Not all. For those few stragglers (a couple oddball team structures in phase 2 and some of the showa entries) it's a little less clear or even debateable, so for those situations we made our judgements based on the following considerations:- When and how were they introduced to the team?
- What role do they play in the narrative and how do they play off the team to do so?
- How much do they serve to further the plot whether directly or by affect of new information or skills they bring?
- How were they treated in marketing to the original audience when the show was airing?
- Do they follow the legacy and aforementioned more closely to other sixths or are they actually an extra ranger?✦ Are only Super Sentai rangers allowed or are Power Rangers also going to featured? So this answer has actually changed a bit over the course of forms due to the surprising amount of power ranger fans and artist who've come to support us already. So in light of this, though it would be too much a split to keep track of both versions indivudually of each ranger, we're allowing the following:
- Solo pieces for Ryan(Titanium Ranger) & Fern (Cosmic Fury Orange) are allowed! As PR only rangers, they're equally important to the legacy of sixth rangers overall.
- Pieces, whether art or writing, of both the sentai and power ranger counterparts of the same ranger are allowed! You cannot do only a power ranger aside the aforementioned cases, but you may have the sentai & power ranger characters together or interacting!✦ How do you plan to distribute sixths between participants so no one character gets an overwhelming amount of content while someone only gets 1 piece about them?
There is going to be a limit of 2 pieces for every ranger in the roster! When applying, we'll ask for your top 5 options to work on and keep it in consideration as we give assignments to contributors. No one may make 2 pieces for the same ranger either.
- "dibs" will be given on a mix of when you send in your pitches and then, as needed, discussing familiarity with other series if there's gaps you could fill potentially elsewhere even if not your first pick. We understand not everyone is going to know every show and ranger so there will potentially be gaps, but we also want to cover as much as possible. If you only know one or two shows and especially if they are more popular in nature, it might be better to either be willing to do some research on other shows while the application period is open or not apply if worried.
